  1. The true horror here may be the upholstery. MARC is making sure you never forget where you are, holstered up with a captive sense of to and fro. MARC ad infinitum.

  2. It would be one thing if the MARC emblems on the seat upholstery were facing backwards half the time -- seeing as the trains go north-south or east-west -- but in fact, half of the MARC emblems are upside down, a fact that keeps me up nights. This would indicate that the train, at some point, is expected to be upside down, and in that moment of great stress, at least you'll be able to read "MARC" without changing your posture, at all. Seeing the emblem -- whether you be riding the rails or headed off the cliff -- that's the MARC way. Had they commissioned Kraftwerk to werk up a MARC anthem, it might've been called, as you've suggested, MARC/Endless.

  3. It occurs to me, Hthr, that this train is #520, yes, but aka the 12:20, when it leaves D.C. So, er, uh, wow, yeah.

yes, it has taken me about a week to collect myself.

as for the hand -- where is it? what is it thinking? who is it nearing? it has a pulse of its own. it is very independent!
